What to Expect from the Surf Conditions
The surf season in PNG runs from mid-October to mid-April. During this time, swells from the North Pacific generate consistent surf ranging from 2 to 6 feet. The water is warm year-round, so all you’ll need is your board and a good sense of adventure.
While the surf in PNG isn’t known for producing massive ‘Maverick’ style waves, it offers some of the cleanest, and fun surf you’ll ever experience. On the bigger days, though, we recommend you always surf within your limits—this is a remote location, and safety comes first.

Arrival in Kavieng
After arriving in Port Moresby from your flight, you’ll catch a connecting flight to Kavieng, New Ireland Province. Our crew will meet you at the airport and take you to the PNG Explorer, your home for the charter. Once onboard, settle in, enjoy a welcome dinner, and get ready for an incredible adventure.
Surf, Explore, Relax

Penultimate day – final surf and return to Kavieng
Spend the morning catching a few last waves before we head back to Kavieng. Take time to reflect on an incredible week of surfing and exploration as we prepare for your return home.
Departure
We’ll get you to Kavieng Airport early in the morning for your flight back to Port Moresby. Although the trip has come to an end, the memories and friendships you’ve made will last a lifetime.

The PNG Explorer is not just a boat—it’s a purpose-built floating surf lodge designed for comfort and adventure. Originally a prawn trawler, it has been transformed into a fully equipped live-aboard vessel that caters to every need.
